“Game over, man! GAME OVER!”

Austin’s Fantastic Fest begins this Thursday. For those unfamiliar with the thing, it’s the largest genre film festival in the U.S. put on every fall by the greatest theater chain in the universe, the Alamo Drafthouse. They’re celebrating their tenth anniversary this year, and they’ve gone all out.

On top of their awesome annual events like Fantastic Debates and Fantastic Feud, the film offerings this year include: the world premieres of Kevin Smith’s TUSK, which opens the festival, NIGHTCRAWLER, which closes it out, THE ABC’s OF DEATH 2, V/H/S VIRAL, and THE HIVE, as well as screenings of THE GUEST, HORNS, and THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN, among many others.

Another mainstay at the festival are the bumpers that play onscreen before every film. Each year a contest is held for filmmakers to create the most outrageous and entertaining video possible. The rules are simple: take the year’s theme (2014’s is the very broad ‘Trans-human’) and make a short between 15-45 seconds, the very last line of which has to be “That’s Fantastic.” The wackier and bloodier, the better.

Long story short, the Paper Street Pictures crew was dead set on doing one this year. It’s like a right of passage for local filmmakers to participate in this contest. We managed to cram a nod to ALIENS, some practical blood effects, an overhead jib shot, and a freaking dolly zoom into 45 seconds! We’re rather proud of it, and think it’s the funniest and best of the bunch. Check it out by following the link below. If you dig it, give it a like, and if you have a Disqus account, comment on it. Please and thank you.
